What this blog is all about..

Cloth Diapering.. obviously! I've been a fan of CDing since I've read about how much I could save money & the environment by using them. Now that I've started using them, there's no turning back! And I hope from this blog (however crazy it sounds) - if it doesn't make you want to CD your child, will at least help raise awareness on the benefits of CDing.. Enjoy!

Going GREEN Part 1: Cloth diapers review

so far it has been about a week of cloth diapering izwan and so far, so good. we have experienced some leaks, but i have to admit that izwan's a heavy wetter (i should have known better and put 2 inserts instead of 1 yesterday at the park..)

as agreed before, today i'm going to comment on the cloth diapers i've used so far. i bought a few types, just to have a feel of each and so far i haven't decided on the winner yet. i bought 2 grovias, 5 lunatots, 2 flips, 1 babyland and 2 happy flutes... yeah.. i know it's quite a lot for starters, but i think it makes sense if u're trying to explore your options right?

another thing... i'm reviewing these cloth diapers based on experience as a user. if u want more information on the product itself, u can just google it.
* reminder: this is my PERSONAL opinion- so no hard feelings ok?*

GroVia: i bought 2 sets of shell with cotton soaker pads and extra cotton soaker pads plus some stay dry boosters..
Advantages:
  • it has a 'clip-on system'- meaning that u have a shell + soaker pad to clip on top. so if the pad gets wet or soiled (provided that it doesnt soil the shell) u can just replace the pad
  • it also comes with disposable BioSoakers which make them handy for travelling. the disposable soakers are also more environmental friendly compared to the disposable diapers out there
  • they sell liners too- u can use these on top of your soaker pads so when your little ones poo, u can just remove the liners + poo & flush them down the toilet! i've tried this but most of the time the poo leaks anyway because izwan is soo active!
  • its design is very slim n sleek compared to other diapers which are quite bulky
  • its soaker pads are super absorbent and there's usually no spills
  • u can buy them from modernmum alamanda... my weekly hang out spot
Disadvantages:
  • they're damn expensive!!! rm 90+ per set- but u dont need that many shells compared to soaker pads, and the soaker pads are at a reasonable price.. ok lah...
  • the soaker pads stain easily and takes longer to dry even in the hot sun
  • because they're super absorbent, they cripple when they're wet, but they dont leak..

GroVia- excellent absorbancy, yet difficult to clean or dry

Lunatots: i bought a set of 5 online.

Advantages:
  • they are pocket diapers, meaning that u have to insert the insert (hah!) inside the pocket
  • there's a button inside, so u can snap the insert inside & they dont move about too much
  • they're very colourful & cute
  • they're not that expensive.. around rm40+ per set (if u buy more, u get them at a cheaper price- and u'll need more anyway)
  • they're made in Malaysia!!! meaning that they tailor for our kids' bum size well and they're appropriate for our weather too..
Disadvantages:
  • as for any other pocket diapers, u can use them once only- when they soil, everything must be changed
  • that also means that there's more laundry load
  • and u'll have to spend on a lot of diapers + inserts (but they're not expensive)
  • so far they have leaked on most occassions (maybe i havent properly pre-washed them yet: soo eager to try... but we'll see- watch this space)

Lunatots pocket diapers
Flip System: i bought 2 sets online too..

Advantages:
  • they're like the grovias, but u dont clip them on.. u slide the inserts on the top & bottom.. meaning that u can just remove the inserts when they get soiled, wipe the shell if they're not too soiled & place a new insert on top
  • they also come with disposable inserts
  • the inserts are great- they're extra long so they can be folded in front or at the back; the inserts are also super absorbent, they dont cripple and much more easy to wash & dry
  • they cost around rm 60+... so.. not too bad aye?
Disadvantages:
  • hmm.. cant think of much... maybe the shell makes izwan sweat a little bit more compared to when he wears other diapers...
  • and they sometimes move about with vigorous activity

Babyland & Happy flutes: i bought these as a package deal (3 CDs + 6 inserts) online

Advantages:
  • really really cheap: u get 3 for rm80! that beats them all..
  • performance wise are quite equal to the others
  • inserts are just as great
  • colourful & cute n if not mistaken, also malaysian product (i think)
  • so far has not leaked even at night- i use them as night diapers & they really work
Diadvantages:
  • they're quite wide so maybe not so suitable for newborns
  • they're pocket diapers... (see previous entry on lunatots)
  • the fit is not as secure..

Wow... that's really long..
i hope that you'll get some useful information from here... dont mind some feedback...

oh ya.. got some photos u can see on these cloth diapers. u can have a look thru this link:
